About the Portuguese Artist:

Born in Viana do Castelo, at the age of 17 Acacio Viegas was a designer and modeler in one of Viana’s most prestigious architectural offices. In 2002 he completed his Bachelor Degree in Engineering and Product Design and then graduated in Product Design, both at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo. Later, in 2006, he completed his Master’s Degree in Industrial Design, at the University of Oporto.

Designer since 1999, he has gone through the most diverse areas, from product design, to graphic design, web design, and retail design. In 1999, he exhibited in the first edition of “Experimentadesign”, Meeting Point, with the object “Quatro L.” His portfolio includes internationally recognized works obtained by participating in contests and selected by the media in the areas of graphic and product design.

In 2002, by invitation, he initiates his teaching career at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo, as a teaching assistant for several years, as well as at the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave, where he taught design and geometric design classes for the curriculum of the Degree in Design and Artistic Ceramics.

In 2014, in the search for new forms of expression, fruit of an inner need for spiritual manifestation and expansion of consciousness, he finds in the arts the way to extrapolate the functionality of objects and the objectivity of communication imposed by design, opening new paths of semantic exploration of the form to communicate with the soul.

The mixture of knowledge clearly influences the choice of techniques and supports, thus presenting the artist a pragmatic approach to representation. He explores the digital as a form of study, preferring the industrial and contemporary techniques to materialize his ideas and thoughts related to spiritual, cultural and of the essence of life itself manifestations. In his art, he commits to provoke an awakening of consciousness, a change of meaning or perspective.

His first artistic essays are shown to the general public for the first time in the 2015 edition of the Guimarães noc noc, with the exhibit “Consciência” and followed by Lisbon, at the Macrobiotic Institute of Portugal, with the individual exhibit “Ser”, with works inspired by original texts of several Portuguese authors.

“I use art as a form of expression, communication and reflection with my surrounding world. I seek to crystallize, through a universal and synthetic language, a complex reality or experience, based on a vision or idea, using symbols and simplified geometric forms, as is the whole creation of nature.

I think that when we contemplate a composition, form and color, a thought or a change of meaning is manifested in us and it brings us to a new state of consciousness, whether conscious or unconscious.

In this way, my works are the fruit of an inner need for spiritual manifestation and expansion of consciousness, opening new paths of semantic exploration of the form to communicate with the soul.

The mixture of knowledge clearly influences my choice of techniques and supports. The use of contemporary digital and industrial techniques reflects modern society and its socioeconomic and technological characteristics.
