Engaging with a diverse range of people has been an exhilarating experience for myself and also a learning experience for others. Surprisingly, throughout my journey, I have met many people who have never before engaged with a black person. Everything they know is what they’ve been told through the media, developing an oversimplified idea of who you are.
Yes, I felt offended at some of the ridiculous things I’ve heard, but I never ran from ignorance. If you’re in a position to be the change always take the time to teach those willing to listen. In my experience, building bridges across a cultural divide leads to a better society.
